Project Description

Dozer and his twisted spleen.

Big dog Dozer is a 7 year old neopolitan mastiff weighing in at 61.7kg.

Giant breed dogs like him, can be prone to a condition known as ‘bloat’, or to be more technical, ‘gastric dilation and volvulus’, which causes the stomach to swell with gas and twist, either by itself, or with the spleen. Dozer presented one Saturday morning in a critical state with a bloated stomach and a twisted spleen, which was threatening to rupture. This condition is immediately life threatening and the MDAH team had no choice but to take him straight to surgery.

Dozer’s massive spleen was removed before it ruptured, and he recovered beautifully, getting home with his human family and French BullDog BFF Henry the same night.
